Brockmire to end with Season 4

  • The baseball broadcaster comedy starring Hank Azaria and Amanda Peet will return for its final eight episodes in March. Showrunner Joel Church-Cooper, who developed Brockmire with Azaria, tells TVLine they both mutually agreed to end the show. Church-Cooper adds that Brockmire has been a lot of work for Azaria. "He’s in fantastic shape," says Church-Cooper. "You will never meet a 50-year-old man in better shape than him, but still it’s so physically taxing and he’ll be the first to admit it. He’s not in his early 20s anymore. I don’t know of another actor who could shoulder this kind of load and four seasons of it seems to be asking plenty of him. Asking him to do five, I think would have started to seem cruel." Church-Cooper adds: "Ultimately, four seasons and 32 episodes of this show feels like the right amount. As proud as I am of the ambition of this show and the fact that we constantly burn the boats behind (us every season and start over), that also means that this show is not built for a long run. We only do A-stories, and it’s not really an ensemble… All of those creative decisions just means that you’re burning through story and you don’t have the option to do 100 episodes."
