Color of Change president calls Breonna Taylor decision a "wakeup call and opportunity" for changing police portrayals in Hollywood

Celebrities from Kerry Washington to Dan Levy expressed outrage over the grand jury's decision in the Breonna Taylor case. None of the three Louisville police officers who fired into Taylor's home in March, killing her, were indicted for her death, though one cop was indicted on three counts of firing his weapon recklessly, endangering her neighbors. Rashad Robinson, who as Color of Change's president has been at the forefront of trying to change positive and often inaccurate police portrayals on TV and the movies, says of the Taylor decision: "I hope that this is another wakeup call and opportunity to think about the narratives and the stories — that get shipped out to the country and to the world — that create less empathy, less respect, that serve as PR arms for law enforcement, the way so many crime procedural shows do. You don't get to these types of legal and policy results without culture helping to fuel it. There are so many in Hollywood working to make positive change, changing not just how they do business but also changing the content they put out into the world and I hope this is a reminder of how urgent that work truly is."
