Sports broadcasting legend Dick Enberg dies at 82

  • Enberg, who died Thursday morning of a possible heart attack, retired after a 60-year career just last year, in October 2016. His career included stints at CBS, NBC, ESPN and, until last year, Fox Sports San Diego, where he called Padres games. Enberg called 10 Super Bowls, covered 28 Wimbledon tennis tournaments and even announced the Rose Parade. Enberg and former NBC Sports colleague Vin Scully retired on the same day, Oct. 2, 2016, with the two legends discussing their respective broadcasting careers.

Enberg -- who has been honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame -- said of his career: “To be with the greatest in the history of the game and sit next to them and pick their brain every day, and they pay me for it and they put me in a good seat, too, behind home plate or midcourt or at the 50-yard line. It’s an incredibly privileged life and part of it is because of those who you were able to share a broadcast with.”
