LOTR: Rings of Power Trailer Sees Sauron Make His Return to Middle-Earth

The new trailer was unveiled at a Comic-Con panel moderated by Stephen Colbert.
  • Amazon Prime Video dropped a new The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power trailer on Friday at a San Diego Comic-Con panel moderated by Lord of the Rings superfan Stephen Colbert.

The new trailer features Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) standing over a pile of empty helmets meant to signify the deaths in the last war to eliminate evil from the world. The evil, which is not specifically named in the trailer, is meant to be Morgoth, the first Dark Lord of Middle-earth and mentor of Sauron.

Sauron, on the other hand, is named in the trailer, and though we don't know who plays the villain, we see him working to regain power during a time of peace in Middle-earth.

The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The series depicts the rise of heroes and villains in the world Tolkien created.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres September 2 on Prime Video.
